Zuerst möchte ich die Neujahrsbrief unserer Pfahl-Frauenhilfsvereinigungs-Leitung teilen. Ich finde ihre Botschaft sehr wichtig und hoch aktuell.

First, I would like to share the New Year letter of our Stake Relief Society Presidency. Their message is very important and relevant.
(I didn´t have time to translate it into English yet but it contains a story of the former mayor of New York, La Guardia, who sometimes acted as a judge on court. The story can be found here: https://bible.org/illustration/mayor-laguardia. It´s worthwhile to read it.)

Ich möchte zum Beginn des Jahres einige Einladungen wiederholen, die ich zur letzten Pfahlkonferenz in der Versammlung am Sonntag, den 8. November 2015 ausgesprochen habe.

I would like to repeat some invitations I have expressed at the last stake conference in the Sunday morning session on November 8th, 2015.

Punkt 1 war, das Evangelium in unser Herz zu lassen und unsere Wünsche mit Gott in Einklang zu bringen.

Point 1 was to let the Gospel into our hearts and to align our desires with God.

„Am Eingang des Herzzentrums in Leipzig gibt es ein Zitat von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe: „Was nicht von Herzen kommt, das geht nicht zu Herzen“.
Der Pfahlpräsident sagt: „Geschwister, über unser Herz tun wir viel in dieser Kirche! Es ist der Schlüssel für unsere Motivation, zu dem, was wir tun!“
Er hat eine Schriftstelle gefunden, in der beschrieben wird, was geschieht, wenn das Herz in unserer Arbeit, unserem Leben, eine zu geringe Rolle spielt: Im 2 Nephi 27:25 heißt es: „Darum, dass dieses Volk sich mir mit dem Munde naht und mich mit den Lippen ehrt, aber sie ihr Herz weit von mir entfernt haben und ihre Furcht vor mir durch Menschenweisung erlernt ist …“
Es ist ein Problem, wenn unsere Herzen nicht mit dem Herrn verbunden sind, wenn wir zwar eine Frömmigkeit an den Tag legen, aber nicht an ihre Wirkung glauben. Darüber können wir in der Lebensgeschichte von Joseph Smith nachlesen. Hier sagt der Himmlische Vater zu ihm: „Sie nahen sich mir den Lippen, aber ihr Herz ist ferne von mir und sie verkünden Menschengebote als Lehre. Sie haben zwar eine Form von Gottesfurcht, aber sie leugnen deren Macht.“
Der Pfahlpräsident ermahnt uns: „Richten Sie Ihr Herz nach dem Herrn aus!“ und zitiert 2 Nephi 32:3-6: „Engel reden durch die Macht des Heiligen Geistes; darum reden sie die Worte von Christus. Darum habe ich zu euch gesagt: Weidet euch an den Worten von Christus; denn siehe, die Worte von Christus werden euch alles sagen, was ihr tun sollt. Darum, wenn ihr nun, nachdem ich diese Worte gesprochen habe, sie nicht verstehen könnt, so deshalb, weil ihr nicht bittet und auch nicht anklopft; darum werdet ihr nicht ins Licht geführt, sondern müsst im Finstern zugrunde gehen. Denn siehe, abermals sage ich euch, wenn ihr auf dem Weg eintretet und den Heiligen Geist empfangt, wird er euch alles zeigen, was ihr tun sollt. Siehe, dies ist die Lehre von Christus, und es wird keine weitere Lehre gegeben werden, …“

At the entrance of the heart center in Leipzig is a quote from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe which says that only things that come from the heart can touch other hearts.

The heart is a key for our service in the Church and our motivation. 2 Nephi 27:25 speaks about a lack of influence of the heart: „Forasmuch as this people draw near unto me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their hearts far from me, and their fear towards me is taught by the precepts of men—“

It is a problem if our hearts are not aligned with God. The Lord addressed Joseph Smith as follows (see Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith – History 1:19): “they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.”

2 Nephi 32:3-6 speaks about the importance of aligning our hearts with God: „Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore, they speak the words of Christ. Wherefore, I said unto you, feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do. Wherefore, now after I have spoken these words, if ye cannot understand them it will be because ye ask not, neither do ye knock; wherefore, ye are not brought into the light, but must perish in the dark. For behold, again I say unto you that if ye will enter in by the way, and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all things what ye should do. Behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and there will be no more doctrine given …“

Punkt 2: Nächstenliebe und die Bereitschaft zu vergeben.

Point 2: Charity and the willingness to forgive.

„Präsident Hengst wendet sich direkt an jeden von und: „Geschwister, ich möchte Sie ermahnen, dass Sie helfen, Konflikte zu lösen, statt welche zu schaffen! Und das sage ich zu ALLEN! Lassen Sie uns mehr Nächstenliebe entwickeln. Wenn wir Beispiele von mangelnder Nächstenliebe finden, dann geht dem ein Mangel im Studium der Heiligen Schriften, ein Mangel beim Pflegen des persönlichen Gebetes voraus! Vielleicht gibt es auch einen Mangel an Tempelbesuchen.“ und zitiert aus Galater 5:13-17: „Ihr seid zur Freiheit berufen, Brüder. Nur nehmt die Freiheit nicht zum Vorwand für das Fleisch, sondern dient einander in Liebe! Denn das ganze Gesetz ist in dem einen einzigen Wort zusammengefasst: Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst! Wenn ihr einander beißt und verschlingt, dann gebt acht, dass ihr euch nicht gegenseitig umbringt. Darum sage ich: Lasst euch vom Geist leiten, dann werdet ihr das Begehren des Fleisches nicht erfüllen. Denn das Begehren des Fleisches richtet sich gegen den Geist, das Begehren des Geistes aber gegen das Fleisch; beide stehen sich als Feinde gegenüber, so dass ihr nicht imstande seid, das zu tun, was ihr wollt.“

Brothers and sisters, please help solving problems, instead of causing them. Let us have more charity. Lack of charity can often be attributed to lack of reading in the scriptures and lack of meaningful personal prayer, maybe also if we don´t go to the temple regularly.
See Galatians 5:13-17: „For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only usenot liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serveone another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.“

Punkt 3: Ein tieferes Vertrauen in die Macht Gottes entwickeln.

Point 3: Develop a deeper trust in the power of God.

„Lassen Sie uns auf die Macht Gottes vertrauen, indem wir säen, Saat ausschütten durch unsere Werke. Lassen Sie uns darauf vertrauen, dass der Herr diese Saat wachsen lässt.“

Let us have trust in the power of God by sowing good works. Let us trust that the Lord will take care of the seed.

Im Jahr 2016 wird in der Sonntagschule das Buch Mormon besprochen. Zusätzlich zu den Punkten oben möchte alle einladen, das Buch Mormon ernsthaft zu studieren. Es wird eine große Hilfe sein, die anderen Einladungen mit Leben zu erfüllen; die Herausforderungen, die wir zur Zeit erleben, besser zu verstehen und angemessen damit umzugehen; und näher zu Jesus Christus zu kommen.

In 2016, the Book of Mormon will be discussed in Sunday School. In addition to the points above, I would like to invite everyone to study the Book of Mormon. It will be a great support to fill the other invitations with life; to better understand our current challenges and respond to them appropriately and to come closer to Jesus Christ.
