Liebe Freunde, dear friends,

Als ich am Dienstagabend spät auf dem Rückweg von einer Dienstreise im Flugzeug saß, las ich in der „Zeit“ einen Artikel in dem sinngemäß stand: „2015 ist das Jahr, in dem die Welt über Deutschland hereingebrochen ist …“. Das erinnerte mich an einen Satz in meinem Patriarchalischen Segen, den ich dieses Jahr in einigen Gemeinden zitiert habe: „Du wirst die Zeit erleben, … wenn große Dinge über die Welt kommen werden, wie sie der Herr offenbart hat, wegen der Gottlosigkeit.“ Daran glaube ich.

When I was on my way back from a business trip Tuesday night, sitting in an airplane, I read an article in the „Zeit“ which said something like this: „2015 was the year when the world has befallen Germany …“. This reminded me on a sentence in my Patriarchal Blessing I have quoted in some wards this year: „You will see a time, … when great things will happen on earth as revealed by the Lord due to ungodliness.“ I believe this.

Es scheint in der Tat, als ob unser Leben eine Folge von Problemen ist – sowohl in der Gesellschaft als auch im Privaten, die uns belasten, den Frieden bedrohen – den inneren als auch den äußeren – und uns große Sorgen machen. Unser Land verändert sich, sowohl zum Guten aber leider auch zum Schlechten.

It seems indeed that our live is a succession of problems – in the society as well as privately – that burden us and threaten the peace – both, our inner and the outer peace. Our country is changing for both, good and unfortunately also for bad.

Bei einigen Problemen fragen wir uns, wie sie jemals wieder geheilt werden können.

For some problems we ask ourselves, how can this ever be healed.

Sie können. Nämlich durch das Sühnopfer von Jesus Christus. Ich glaube, es wird immer wichtiger, dass wir uns zurückbesinnen auf diese große Gabe Gottes und richtige Schlussfolgerungen daraus ziehen.

It can – through the atonement of Jesus Christ. I believe it becomes more and more important, to reflect on this great gift of God and draw the right conclusions.

In der Adventszeit habe ich im Auto oft dieses wunderbare Werk von Georg Friedrich Händel angehört, in dem Jesaja 9:5 uns auf einzigartige Weise nahe gebracht wird. Es ist Teil des Oratoriums „Der Messias“, das Händel selbst als seine Auferstehung bezeichnete.

During the Christmas season I have listened a lot to the wonderful hymn written by Georg Friedrich Handel, which brings us closer to Isaiah 9:6. It is part of „The Messiah“ which Handel himself called his resurrection.

„Denn uns ist ein Kind geboren, ein Sohn ist uns gegeben, und die Herrschaft ruht auf seiner Schulter; und er heißt Wunder-Rat, Gott-Held, Ewig-Vater, Friede-Fürst;“

In the King-James Bible, Isaiah 9:6:

„For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.“

Ein weiteres Lied, dass ich mir ständig angehört habe, beschreibt die Feierlichkeit der Geburt von Jesus Christus – die Heilige Nacht. Geist und Zeugnis dieses Liedes sprechen für sich selbst.

Another hymn I have listened to a lot describes the solemnity of the birth of Jesus Christ – the Holy Night. Spirit and Testimony of this hymn speak for itself.

Ich musste dabei auch an eine Schriftstelle in Lehre und Bündnisse Abschnitt 88 denken.

I also thought about a scripture in Doctrine and Covenants, section 88.

Auszug aus Vers 104: „—denn jedes Ohr wird vernehmen, und jedes Knie wird sich beugen, und jede Zunge wird bekennen, wenn sie den Ton der Posaune hören, nämlich: Fürchtet Gott, und gebt ihm die Ehre, der auf dem Thron sitzt, für immer und immer; denn die Stunde seines Gerichts ist gekommen.“

From verse 104: „—for every ear shall hear it, and every knee shallbow, and every tongue shall confess, while they hear the sound of the trump, saying: Fear God, and give glory to him who sitteth upon the throne, forever and ever; for the hour of his judgment is come.“

Wir alle werden Ihm begegnen, denn Er ist für alle Menschen in die Welt gekommen, hat für alle gelitten und ist für alle auferstanden. Sein Sühnopfer ist nicht selektiv und deshalb ist auch Seine Botschaft für jedermann gültig.

We all will encounter Him for He came into the world for all of us, suffered for all of us and he is risen from the dead. His antonement is not selective as thus, His message is valid for all of us.

Ich liebe die Beschreibung vom Erscheinen Jesu Christi bei den Nephiten, wie es im Buch 3. Nephi im Buch Mormon zu lesen ist.

I love the record of Jesus Christ´s appearance among the Nephites as we read it in 3rd Nephi, in the Book of Mormon.

3. Nephi 11:9-17: „Und es begab sich: Er streckte seine Hand aus und sprach zum Volk, nämlich:
Siehe, ich bin Jesus Christus, von dem die Propheten bezeugt haben, er werde in die Welt kommen.
Und siehe, ich bin das Licht und das Leben der Welt; und ich habe aus jenem bitteren Kelch getrunken, den der Vater mir gegeben hat, und habe den Vater verherrlicht, indem ich die Sünden der Welt auf mich genommen habe; und darin habe ich den Willen des Vaters in allem von Anfang an gelitten.
Und es begab sich: Als Jesus diese Worte gesprochen hatte, fiel die ganze Menge zur Erde; denn sie erinnerten sich, daß es unter ihnen prophezeit worden war, Christus werde sich ihnen nach seiner Auffahrt in den Himmel zeigen.
Und es begab sich: Der Herr sprach zu ihnen, nämlich:
Erhebt euch, und kommt her zu mir, daß ihr eure Hände in meine Seite legen und auch, daß ihr die Nägelmale in meinen Händen und in meinen Füßen fühlen könnt, damit ihr wißt, daß ich der Gott Israels und der Gott der ganzen Erde bin und für die Sünden der Welt getötet worden bin.
Und es begab sich: Die Menge ging hin und legte ihre Hände in seine Seite und fühlte die Nägelmale in seinen Händen und in seinen Füßen; und dies taten sie und gingen einer nach dem anderen hin, bis sie alle hingegangen waren und mit eigenen Augen sahen und mit eigenen Händen fühlten und mit Gewißheit wußten und Zeugnis gaben, daß er es war, von dem die Propheten geschrieben hatten, er werde kommen.
Und als sie alle hingegangen waren und sich selbst überzeugt hatten, riefen sie einmütig aus, nämlich:
Hosanna! Gesegnet sei der Name des Allerhöchsten Gottes! Und sie fielen nieder zu Jesu Füßen und beteten ihn an.“

3 Nephi 11:9-17: „And it came to pass that he stretched forth his hand and spake unto the people, saying:
Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.
And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in takingupon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning.
And it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words the whole multitude fell to the earth; for they remembered that it had been prophesied among them that Christ should show himself unto them after his ascension into heaven.
And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto them saying:
Arise and come forth unto me, that ye may thrust your hands into my side, and also that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world.
And it came to pass that the multitude went forth, and thrust their hands into his side, and did feel the prints of the nails in his hands and in his feet; and this they did do, going forth one by one until they had all gone forth, and did see with their eyes and did feel with their hands, and did know of a surety and did bear record, that it was he, of whom it was written by the prophets, that should come.
And when they had all gone forth and had witnessed for themselves, they did cry out with one accord, saying:
Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God! And they did fall down at the feet of Jesus, and didworship him.“

Jedes Mal, wenn ich das lese, spüre ich wie der Heilige Geist mir Bestätigung gibt und ich bin tief bewegt.
Wie werden wir uns fühlen, wenn wir ihm begegnen? Wie verändert uns diese Erkenntnis? Was werden wir in Zukunft tun?

Every time I read this I feel the witness of the Holy Ghost, and I am deeply moved. How will we feel when we meet Him? How this knowledge change us? What are we going to do in the future?

Ich habe diese Woche den zynischen Kommentar eines deutschen Kabarettisten gelesen, der sich darüber lustig machte, wie einfältig Menschen sein müssen, die an ein Zweites Kommen von Jesus Christus glauben oder gar an ein Sühnopfer und eine Auferstehung. Nun, ich nehme es ihm nicht übel. Woher soll er es besser wissen? Es ist nicht die Botschaft, die wir in der Prime Time in den Nachrichten hören oder sehen. Man muss danach suchen, nachdenken, beten und anwenden, dann wird man sie finden.

I read some cynical remarks of a German comedian this week, ridiculing people who have faith in Jesus Christ, His second coming, His atonement and resurrection. I don´t feel offended by the guy´s position. How could he know better? It´s not the message we see or hear in the prime time news. One has to seek, ponder, pray and apply – then it can be found.

Zu Weihnachten gebe ich Zeugnis von der heilenden Macht des Sühnopfers Jesu Christi. Sie bewirkt in der Regel nicht, dass Sorgen und Probleme auf magische Weise verschwinden (obwohl das ab und zu geschieht). Die heilende Macht des Sühnopfers bewirkt, dass Menschen mit Glauben, Nächstenliebe und Rechtschaffenheit handeln. Sie hilft, mit Problemen umzugehen, sie zu verstehen, zu heilen und weniger neue Probleme zu schaffen.

At Christmas, I bear witness of the healing power of the atonement of Jesus Christ. It usually doesn´t make problems disappear in a magic way (well, it sometimes happens). The healing power of the atonement changes individuals to act with faith, charity and in righteousness. It helps to deal with problems, understand them, to heal and not to create new problems.

Herzlichen Dank allen Freunden, Kollegen und meiner Familie für die Unterstützung, Freundschaft, Liebe und Zuneigung, von der ich dieses Jahr mehr empfangen habe, als ich geben konnte. Ich bin dafür sehr dankbar.

I would like to thank all friends, co-workers and my family for all the support, friendship, love and affection I have received much more this year than I could give back. I´m very grateful for it.
